The representation of women in terms of age and occupation was more stereotypical on men’s channels than on women’s channels, whereas men were represented in more contra-stereotypical ways (e.g., performing household tasks) on women’s channels. Regardless of genre as well as country of origin of the program, women were underrepresented on men’s channels, while gender distribution on women’s channels was more equal. The expectation that men’s channels would portray a less equal and more traditional image of gender than women’s channels was generally supported by the results. To this end, the presence of men and women on two female- and two male-targeted Dutch channels ( N = 115 programs, N = 1091 persons) were compared via content analysis. Grime Kids is not about finger-wagging or preaching but proof that there is still so much rich untapped talent out there and that we shouldn’t let anything get in the way of a good time. The current study investigated the differences in the representation of gender on male- and female-targeted channels with regard to recognition (i.e., the actual presence of men and women) and respect (i.e., the nature of that representation or portrayal). In the present day, we might still struggle with allowing black kids to just be kids, valuing underground music scenes as proper art or embracing black joy on screen as we do black trauma. It’s a show that doesn’t resort to cheap nostalgia but plays with our assumptions about the environment and era that birthed grime. While a lot has changed, Grime Kids feels as box-fresh and funky as a new pair of Reeboks. As Dane’s nan warns her grandson: “You don’t need to do anything wrong when you look wrong. Bayo tugs at the heartstrings when he asks if “this is going to be our last summer as kids?”, given that any cursory glance at the news would show that 16-year-old black boys are viewed largely as men and often as threats. The pain and rejection are funnelled into his art, scribbled furiously into bright notebooks, and his moments of triumph are moving and fully earned.īut behind the joy and fun in the scenes of open mics and house parties, there is a gentle tragedy in play – because these young people still view themselves as children, even when the world cannot. His innate coolness fills the screen, but he doesn’t mask the insecurities that plague Kai as he fights a tendency to internalise the way the world, and his own family, view him as good for nothing. Swag aside, he is just as adept at quiet devastation as he is at portraying east London’s hottest new grime star. But it’s Hazzan who distinguishes himself as a true star in the making, pulling off the bright colours and terrible jeans of the time, while rocking a ruby red durag like he’s in the pages of Vogue. Kai is the crew’s secret weapon, with his natural charisma and rap skills shining through, even though his father views him as a grave disappointment. Despite not having been born when flip phones were the height of cool, they take on the language, fashion and swag of the era and never look as if they are cosplaying nostalgia for the pre-social media halcyon days. The entire ensemble’s performances are charming, with a lived-in specificity. They find strength, joy and support in one another and even though they face a series of rude awakenings, their passion for grime never wavers. Naturally, at that age, friendships can prove just as intense and complicated as romances, and the show treats their bonds as fundamental. They dream of breaking into the music industry, and having the greatest summer of their lives while they’re at it. There is sweet romantic Dane (Yus Jamal Crookes), tech-savvy Bishop (Tienne Simon), warm-hearted but naive Bayo (Juwon Adedokun), pensive Junior (Gabriel Robinson) and prodigal son Kai (Shanu Hazzan), who returns to Tower Hamlets after a few years in Bristol. Set in the early 00s, when grime was emerging, our ensemble look to pirate radio and the underground dance scene as the path to a glittering future. It follows a group of friends fresh from finishing their GCSEs, obsessing over music and having fun while on the brink of manhood. This television version has been written by playwright Theresa Ikoko (best known for co-writing the critically adored teenage-girl drama Rocks). His credentials are rock solid, having been a founding member of the Roll Deep collective, which counted grime icons Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder and Skepta among its members. The series has been adapted from the grime pioneer and BBC radio presenter DJ Target’s 2018 era-defining book.

Run tasks on development and/or production.Run server configuration and/or application deployment.A simulated production server (to simplify the demo).Putting all the parts together, our requirements are: So given that we use Ansible for many of our automation needs at Chromatic, I decided to use Ansible and Vagrant so that I could build as close a copy of a production environment as possible, and use our usual tools to provision that environment and deploy Drupal. In other words, I wanted to build a development environment that not only resembled production, but was similar enough to it that I could use exactly the same process to set up, modify, or rebuild my development server as I would for one of our in-production servers. The basic approach I wanted to try is quite simple: treat the local environment exactly like production. To do this, I used tools that I'm familiar with, Vagrant and Ansible (note that as I mentioned above, there are multiple solutions to each part of this problem-I'm sure the same thing could be achieved with e.g. So knowing that all the component parts for a solution to the problem already existed, I created a proof-of-concept to illustrate one way to solve the problem (but please note: this is not a complete solution, or a tool you can simply begin using). One way or another, we already use automation to do all of these things (and more) on our production servers.

Prior to this update, the Adobe Acrobat extension for Chrome could only save web pages in PDF form, something the browser can already do with its printing tools. Notably, this update seems to have been made available in some form around August of this year based on a support page, but Adobe is just now showcasing the added functionality. You’ll also need a subscription to delete specific pages from a PDF. These features include the ability to convert a PDF to a Word document straight from the browser, converting a webpage into a PDF, as well as adjusting the placement and orientation of PDF pages. Fields can also be used with the extension for text input or an e-signature.Īll of those features are available for free, but others will require an Adobe subscription. New in this update is the ability for users to add comments, markups, and highlights to PDFs without downloading the full Acrobat program. The Adobe Acrobat extension is available in the Chrome Web Store for both Google’s uber-popular browser as well as the excellent though intrusive alternative, Microsoft Edge. Highlighted on the Adobe blog today, this update to Acrobat allows users to add comments, markups, signatures, and make other basic edits to PDFs directly within their browser window, seemingly also making these functions possible on Chrome OS (though this isn’t explicitly confirmed by Adobe). Outside of work, Manuel enjoys a good film or TV show, loves to travel, and you will find him roaming one of Berlin's many museums, cafés, cinemas, and restaurants occasionally.Adobe today announced a big update to its Acrobat extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge – the addition of basic PDF editing tools, many of which come at no cost. This helps him gain perspective on the mobile industry at large and gives him multiple points of reference in his coverage. Since then, he has mostly been faithful to the Google phone lineup, though these days, he is also carrying an iPhone in addition to his Pixel phone. After his HTC One S refused to connect to mobile internet despite three warranty repairs, he quickly switched to a Nexus 4, which he considers his true first Android phone. Manuel's first steps into the Android world were plagued by issues. He isn't shy to dig into technical backgrounds and the nitty-gritty developer details, either. Manuel studied Media and Culture studies in Düsseldorf, finishing his university career with a master's thesis titled "The Aesthetics of Tech YouTube Channels: Production of Proximity and Authenticity." His background gives him a unique perspective on the ever-evolving world of technology and its implications on society. At least the PDF reader is able to fill out forms in PDFs. You also have to be careful about saving changes made to the documents you annotated or signed by hitting the download button in the top right corner, as there's no auto-save option. If you have a stylus, the viewer makes it easy to underline, draw, sign, and write with a selection of tools, but things get a little more complicated once you'd like to draw straight lines, shapes, or just add text - the Chrome PDF viewer currently doesn't support that. It's the default solution for opening PDF files you've downloaded on your Chromebook, and it's more than enough for many circumstances. If you don't need much more than a basic PDF viewer with rudimentary support for annotations and signatures, you might not have to look further than Chrome's native PDF viewer. Finally, s igning and filling out a PDF is much like signing and filling out a printed document, though PDF files allow for special forms and boxes that you can manipulate via a viewer. You can underline things, add shapes, forms, and text, but you can't change the underlying PDF document itself. Annotating a PDF can be compared to taking notes on a printout. Editing a PDF is a process similar to working on a Word document - you can change the text, switch out images, and add new elements to a page, altering it completely in the process. Sort, add, and delete pages with the Organize tool, and add page. The free PDF editor gives you control over which pages you download to save only the most important ones. Before we dive in, we need to establish a vocabulary to make it easier to differentiate between the different tools. Accurate conversion means you don’t need a separate Chrome extension to save webpages as PDF. The font I’m using is Badgear Demo from Fontspace – I recently used it on an anniversary card, and I use it for this example because not only is it a fancy script font, its lines are uniform width. They look great on the screen, but we have to make adjustments in Design Space so the final product looks as good as it did on your computer. These fonts are not specifically designed for Cricut. When I need more formal or fancy script fonts, I usually have to find third party fonts. Cricut has its own selection of fonts that are designed specifically for writing, but they don’t really satisfy every need. You need to use the desktop version of Design Spaceto follow these steps (ie on a laptop or desktop computer). Note: This tutorial uses the Cricut Offset tool, which is not available on the mobile version of Cricut Design Space. This tutorial is essential if you want to use script fonts on paper or cardstock, or if you want to expand your card making repertoire to include chunkier serif or sans-serif fonts. You can use Cricut’s new Offset Tool to fill in fonts and give them a perfect solid fill look. You don’t have to import lined patterns or use any other workaround. We’ve got a clever hack that anyone can use with Cricut Design Space. We have a popular article about single line fonts you can use for writing, but what about when you want to use a font that isn’t single line-ready? This really distracts from the sentiment. If you are trying to write with a fancy script font, you get a bubbled look. If you are drawing a font with a pen, all you are going to get is an outline of the letter, not a solid shape. How do you fill in letters with a Cricut?Ĭricut’s default setting with fonts is to treat them as outlines, whether your operation is drawing, cutting or foiling. Anyway Jen wouldn’t add any others than the people she knew or was close to which makes sense. Of course Fantage being Fantage the players would want to buddy civic_princess just probably so they could boast saying CIVIC ADDED ME. They were admired for their videos together and civic was friends with a lot of the other famous people back then like boogieramon, wind, leonel2009, and more that I can’t name right now. Her boyfriend at that time red_ninja were very popular. She was well known on there because of her levels and because she had a youtube channel. The first person ever to reach first place user was civic_princess. There was Hall Of Fame in uptown that ranks you on your levels. What else about old F vantage that I heard about? Oh yes the famous people. More on that later because that’s more to the new Fantage than the old one. The Europe, Japan, and French one closed. There used to be a Fantage Europe, Fantage Japan, Fantage French, and Fantage Spanish. Eventually Vintage Gold was closed and a store we know so well PM Boutique took its place.īefore we get into PM Boutique let’s talk about the other Fantages that existed back then but sadly are closed now. I didn’t see any videos about people getting scammed in Vintage Gold like it would be in Trade and Sell. Vintage Gold was released and there was a lot less scamming. The next shop they released after closing Trade and Sell was Vintage Gold. Then after a while they must have decided that the way to fix this problem was to close it and make a better store for what everyone wanted. They released a sign that talked about safe trading and how to refuse to double trade. Fantage was a lot more alive back then so they were constantly getting informed of people being scammed and who scammed them. People started getting greedy and started scamming people. Users could also make fair trades with each other. Trade and Sell let people buy good items for starred, coined, and basically anything for everyone. Trade and Sell was one of the very first shops I heard. The next thing I remember is about the shops. I don’t really get why it was called that but that is what it was. Later on I found out this was called the Green War. Some people would also host tryouts and leave the nons out. □ Some members would pick on the nons like they didn’t belong there because they had better clothes, items, etc. The people who had membership were dubbed as members and the people who didn’t have membership were basically dubbed as nons like non members. But the first time it was released it didn’t start very well. It lets people who buy the membership get better items. They eventually had to release something called membership. Sites need money to keep their website up. I found her youtube channel and some blog posts which I will put down later. The leaders were donut, 2008sarah, and I think wind. The second thing is that people made armies and fought against each other. Sadly you can’t really do it anymore so it’s really rare or surprising to see people with one word users. Fantagians who played back then created some really funny one word usernames. The following things I am going to talk about next go together so that’s why I am talking about them at the same time. I didn’t realize that was the site I saw until after I joined about two years later. I have decided to make a post gathering information about Fantage back then and Fantage now.įantage was released in spring of 2008.What I first saw of Fantage was the back of an advertisement of a magazine I used to read called Discovery Girls. They always say how wonderful Fantage was back then and how it’s basically no good now. I have been seeing a lot of complaints about Fantage as always. Generally speaking, the kind of overriding principle that we follow is that we think that games are becoming platforms, but more specific to us, we think creation is becoming part of the gameplay and so that’s where we try to target Atlas’ technology.”Īlthough Atlas is currently only available for enterprise and commercial use, the startup plans to begin alpha testing for a public platform in the coming months. “So constantly evolving and changing maps, adding elements of user-generated content that is stylistically consistent into these gameplay mechanics. “One of the things that I think we’ve done pretty effectively is we’ve worked with some really high-profile game developers to help build out large virtual worlds, but where we see a tremendous need for this type of technology is to help smaller indie game developers create these worlds, games that would be impossible to create otherwise,” James said. And what we started playing around with at Atlas was if there was a way to connect machine vision learning information from 2D imagery, and bringing that into the 3D world.”Įarly on, Atlas received a research grant from the European Union’s High-Level Expert Group on AI and built its technology in accordance with the union’s Ethical Guidelines for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence. 2D drawings like plans and sections and elevations are inherently embedded with three dimensional information through line weights, annotations, etc. “I’m a self-taught coder and I thought that there would maybe be an interesting way to look at architecture through the guise of machine vision. “I’ve worked a lot at the intersection of design and technology,” James told TechCrunch in an interview. The Vienna-based startup was founded in early 2021 by Ben James, who is a self-taught coder and has a background in architecture. Atlas allows developers to generate detailed 3D models from reference images and text. The platform partners with game developers and brands to build virtual worlds in a fraction of the time it takes using traditional methods. The funding consists of two rounds: a $4.5 million round led by 6th Man Ventures (6MV) and a $1.5 million round led by Collab+Currency. Atlas, a 3D generative AI platform, is launching with $6 million in seed funding after two years in stealth. |
